First, Let me make brief introduction of myself. My name is Bill Wang. Currently I’m working in LCS Purchasing, I’m responsible for Construction&Engineering, Warehouse and Logistics spend pool.
Slide Two:
We say goodbye to Dog Year, and come with Pig Year. This is a great change and transition period in my life. In the past half, I studied in Tsinghua University with multiple expectations and even hesitation about my future. In the last July, I joined P&G with my dream, the dream to be a business professional with leadership, ownership, integrity, trust and passion for winning. I’d like to highlight the past 6 months in two words: Transition and Onboarding.
Slide Three:
The past 2006 was busy, tough but fruitful. Here’re a list of projects that I’ve down in the past half (Go through slides). I’d like to emphasize all those projects couldn’t be successfully launched without the support from my boss, my boss’s boss, my courterpartners, and best of all, our project team. Also, my efforts and contributions are paid off, I got recognition and appreciation from the leadership. My first project, Global Q2BB Poster was awarded with “Power of You Award”, which is the first business award I’ve ever got in P&G. My second project “XQ Femcare Building” set up global benchmark and I got “S-Max” Purchasing Director Award. Definitely, there are a long way to go to be professional and perfect, I should even work harder and more smartly to get it better. Here I quote a famous Chinese proverb to share with you. (Go through slides).
Slide Four:
To go through those projects, I have some learnings to share with you guys. As my topic is “PIG Matrix”, let’s figure out what it means.
P: P means to me is “Passion, proactive and progress”; Passion to know, to learn and to win. Proactive involvement as Early Bird gets to eat first. Keep to make progress and do good things. My past is a mirror and my future is a benchmark. Work, progress and strive for perfection. I: I means to me is “Integration, In-depth and Intuition”. P&G is a great college and it integrates diverse people with different backgrounds to work as a unit. Take my position LCS Pur.as an example, it needs not only high purchasing skills, but technical mastery, legal implication and financial understanding. To successfully make it integrated, let’s go in-depth. For if you don’t figure out facts, facts will come to you. Only can we develop business expertise we would have business intuition, that is, the intuition to help me clarify the case, make breakthrough and deliver results. G: G means to me is “Graph, Graft and Grow”. In my routine life, I’d draw up graphs of what’s project really going on. Graph makes me think more concisely and logically. Graft means reapplication. As a newhire, I have no project experience. My last job was a TV programmer which has nothing to do with purchases. So I start to learn from my boss, my peers and all references available on the E-tools. Graft does not mean anything of direct copy, but reapply with creativity. In this way we can grow to be better.
Slide Five
In the past six months, I have too many hard decisions to be made, and too many issues to be handled. I just mention the top three concerns. Hopefully, the leadership and my peers could offer any help.
Efficiency vs Alignment. Before I join P&G, I often heard about multi-national companies are working very efficiently, which is not like those of state-owned companies. But when I come here, one of the most popular words that I’ve ever heard is “Alignment”. To be honestly, alignment somehow kills the efficiency. For example, when I asked for concurrence of the team via Email, the very usual thing happens is that I got no response. I need to call up each of them attention, which often delays the previous schedule. Hopefully, my peers can offer your good solutions for me to eliminate this issue. Leadership vs role player. I think Maryanne Gale and Chirstole Chen have answered this question a couple of days ago. I don’t want to go in depth of this issue. Holistic vs Expertise. This is an issue doubts me in these days. At the very beginning of my career, should I know everything about something, or should I know something about everything? This issue is also the question I asked my supervisor when I came to graduate study. But I truly believe career is much different from research, please let me know your point of view upon your success in P&G.
Slide Six
P&G is not every single to work in an individual way, but a diverse people to work as a unit. Let’s look at the action. In my PIG Matrix, let’s change a bitter and see what happens. P&G is not an individual business, we make it happen, we make it work, we make it better and we make P&G history.
Slide Seven
In the summer 2006, there were so many new faces, so much happy smiles. Let’s refresh our memory upon those photos. The past summer was enjoyable and unforgettable, we have World Cup, we Have Supergirl PK, and we have newhire onbording. I link the song of “That Summer”, hope all you guys can memorize 2006, the special year for all of us.
Slide Eight:
The year 2007 is challenging with opportunity, we expect, we step forward, we deliver result, we achieve.
Touch the life, grow with P&G.
